on a NM book I wouldn't knock it down any more than NM- since it was manufactured that way and really doesn't distract from the book in any way. If listing it for sale I would mention it just to be on the safe side but other than that I don't think it's too big of a deal. I've seen many books that were missing a staple (or two) or similar to yours.

The following stores are all stores that I've dealt with or have become friends with through the forums and I highly recommend them all.

Stuff like that technically has zero affect on the grade, even if it was only printed with one staple. Probably a good idea to mention it though, people buying NM books can be fickle & it's safe to mention anything out of the ordinary, might save you a return.

I picked this Giant-Size X-Men #2 for $2.25...not sure of the grade though, any thoughts?

I'd give it a 6.5. If those corner creases weren't there, it would be a pretty nice book.

I was thinking Fine, which is a 6.0, so same ballpark.

I'd go with a Fine/VF. There aren't much in the way of defects short of those small creases.

There also appears to be a mark running through beast to the sentinel as well this would placeit at a 6.0 for me. still a solid copy.

One of my oldest (and most beat up) books. I traded a $125 Ibanez guitar for it. My best guess puts it at 1.8ish:

I'd agree. 1.5 or 1.8 or so.

Hi,

In the below picture, there is some black spotting. I'm guessing that this is some sort of ink smudge?

If a comic is otherwise in NM condition, how much does something like this knock it down?

Thanks!

Is it an ink smudge from storage (having the front cover rub against a black back cover in front of/on top of it)? If so, I'd put it in the 7.0 to 8.0 range. Probably 8.0 if the rest is Near Mint.

The same problem must have occurred with all of Feb 81's covers. I noticed this fault on all my DC issues for this month. Strangely enough there is a similar mess with April 81's Marvel covers too.

The mice it appears snacked on the back side across about 2 inches of the edge, maybe a half inch into the cover area and some internal pages as deep as half the pages in the book without affecting any of the story reading that I can see. It's not even close to the color blocks containing story content.

Now to go see if i can find a copy that hasn't been snacked on.

On the Thor #165, it looks like it might have been book worms or some little burrowing critter.

Without seeing the insides, I'd say it's anywhere from 1.0 to 2.5.

Inside pages are clean crisp, with nice squared corners other than what's missing from snacking.

I think you are safe at GD (2.0). I would not be dissapointed if I received that book graded as such. Poor/Fair books usually look pretty trashed, which that does not. It seems good allows just about the greatest amount of defects, while still retaining the complete and readable story. Of course, there will always be sublte differences between books causing them to grade up or down... but in this case, GD is probably a safe grade.
