Seeing it friday...dunno when. It looks good (to me) :)
Best quote ever:
Chamber: (about to link his abilities with Spider-Man's spider sense to transmit what Spiderman feels about the poisoned money to the people; read the comic) Skin ... Even if it fails ..... you're brillant(he thought of the idea) . Will you .... trust me, Spider-Man ?
Spider-Man: At this point, I'll try anything --- except Karaoke, of course .
Chamber: No jokes, please ... just let out ... your feelings ... without barriers.
Spider-Man: Uhhh, you're making this sound an awful lot like Karaoke ... Oops. sorry.

Seriously, the plot is just the same as Dances With Wolves. I'm not even kidding. The advertising for this thing is over the top. It's the type of advertising you see for a movie that is not going to get a lot of good word of mouth buzz, which means it's going to suck.

Also, I hate this movie because it's going to suck and so the Avatar: The Last Airbender movie has to take the word Avatar out of their movie title so people don't think it's a sequel to THIS Avatar. Boooooooooooo

I was thinking about this thread when I got home from shopping today, and it dawned on my how much the aboriginal characters from the film resemble the trolls from my own fiction.

Total waste of $10. Maybe worth $7.50, but definitely not $10. The first half of the movie was so freaking boring.Yawn The best part was the last thirty minutes when all the action happened.

I saw it yesterday, if they cut from 30 to 40 minutes out of the movie maybe it would be bareable. Visually in 3-D it was very nice, but after 3 hours watching a 3-D movie it does hurt your eyes. Not much of a story either. When will director's figure out that effects and CGI alone do not make a movie good. The Dark Knight did not have extensive GGI and it was a great movie because of the story and acting. Almost as long as Avatar, yet the time flies by as you are watching it.

No.

From what I've heard of the story it is anti-American.

It seems as though the point of the story is to be an allagory for current world events.

The point seems to be to influence people on a subconcious level to hate America.

It sounds like ths story is merely anti-American propadanda.

I did not see it as anti-American, in fact it didn't have much of a story at all. If anything, I think the story made have been more of an attempt to bring attention to large corporations that have been de-foresting the rain forests in the world, and not every company involved in that activity is American owed.

I don't know about an allegory for current world events since I heard somewhere (probably right here) that Cameron had the idea for this kicking around in her head for like 14 years.

Whew, you guys need to lighten up. This film has received universal praise, from critics and peers in my circle. They can't all be short-sighted and naive.

Now, if you happen to be a Cameron basher, then there is no hope for you, the viewer. But personally, I'm looking forward to seeing it next week. If I spot any of the propaganda I'm being warned about during the film, I will return with commentary.

I don't know about any propaganda, I just don't think it's that great. When you watch it think Dances with wolves + Surrogates. People get into machines to put their minds in another body, then go befriend tribal people and turn on their own military to fight with the tribal people.

Why are so many people so jacked up on this Dances with wolves thing? It is about a character that goes to the other side for one reason, then joins them after he learns about them. This is one of the standard plots for stories since day one, let alone movies. It also uses the classic romance formula= boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl again. Does this mean that every romance story since the first ever that used it is a ripoff? Maybe we should be crying that Star Wars is a ripoff of Akira Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress? WTF?
Every day above ground is a good day.
