I have an urge to pick up all the issues in The Death Of Superman. I've looked up online the books I need for the set but the lists differ a bit. What all do I need?

Click on the "Story Arc" link to the left, under "Search Library." Type in Death of Superman. There ya go.

Action Comics #684
Adventures of Superman #497
Justice League America #69
Superman #74
Superman #75
Superman: The Man of Steel #18
Superman: The Man of Steel #19

Technically, if you want to collect EVERYTHING, there's Action Comics #683, Adventures of Superman #496, Superman #73 and Superman: The Man of Steel #17. These feature last page cameos of Doomsday breaking free of his prison. Or, at least, Doomsday's fist.

Neat thanks. That story arc feature will come in handy. Never noticed it before.

I would have thought that Superman: The Man of Steel #18 would have been closer to the top of this list, what with it being the first Doomsday. They really rushed through the end of this, eh?

This is only the list based on the title of the trade (and trading cards) that is incorrectly being used as a story arc for these issues. "Death of Superman" isn't in the actual comics and CCL doesn't use trade titles/subtitles as default arc names. Technically, that "arc" should be removed from all the issues (and really the cards too).

kisstour03, you can follow the flow of Superman issues in the bios of each issue. For instance, Superman: The Man of Steel #17 notes: Triangle 1992-41. Continued from Action Comics (1938) #682 and continues in Superman (1987) #73.

The reading order from the very first appearance of Doomsday...

Superman: The Man of Steel #17
Superman (1987) #73
Adventures of Superman (1987) #496
Action Comics (1938) #683
Superman: The Man of Steel #18
Justice League America #69
Superman (1987) #74
Adventures of Superman (1987) #497
Action Comics (1938) #684
Superman: The Man of Steel #19
Superman (1987) #75

The follow-up Funeral for a Friend arc continues in...

Justice League America #70
Adventures of Superman (1987) #498
Action Comics (1938) #685
Superman: The Man of Steel #20
Superman (1987) #76
Adventures of Superman (1987) #499
Action Comics (1938) #686
Superman: The Man of Steel #21
Superman (1987) #77
Adventures of Superman (1987) #500

And then comes the Reign of the Supermen which I'll leave up to you.

While I understand that the OP was requesting a chronological reading order, I felt it was obvious that I was providing him with information on how to look up story arcs, and a quick alphabetical listing of the books he'd need to read.

Personally, I'd just read the trade. It can usually be found for about $5, which is cover price, if I recall correctly. This is especially true, because Superman #75 is the black bag edition.

The Death of Superman is a great slugfest story. Some great Dan Jurgens art and brutal (for Superman comics) fight scenes.

But if you want a good story, the Death of Superman really is just a set-up to the meat-and-potatoes of the storyline: The Reign of the Supermen which introduced the Post-Crisis Superboy, Steel, The Cyborg Superman, and a mysterious Superman with familiar ties to another Superman character.

I thought about picking up the trades. But I just love singles. When I entered my collection into the database awhile back I found out I had a bunch of Funeral For A Friend and Reign Of The Supermen issues already. They must have come in some mixed lots I bought. But I have no Death related issues at all. I'm on a Superman kick for the first time in my life and figured I should read this story that happened during my time away from comics. Which spanned a lot of years. Going by my bad memory and books I recall getting not long before I stopped reading. It was during the time Spider-Man had the black costume but before Venom appeared. I started reading for a short time just as the Clone Saga got rolling. Got out again just after the Saga ended. And came back just as the New 52 got going. I'm not leaving again.

Anyway that's my long-winded way of saying I missed the Death Of Superman and a bunch of other great books over the years.

+1. Reign was the first DC story I read.

Tonight I finally bought all the issues for Death to the end of Reign. It took four sellers on here but I got everything I needed except Man Of Steel #17. No one here had it and Evilbay was stupid prices for it. I can wait. Can't wait to dig into the pile when they all arrive.

This is something I just decided to do yesterday. I already have a handful of books, now it's time for me start filling in the gaps.

Wow! Crazy prices indeed! I probably have several copies of this in my overstock. I'll let you know if I dig one out...
