Has anyone bought raw comics from Metropolis? Has anyone submitted comics from them to CGC and had them come back higher than the grade they gave? Tell me about your experiences with their grading.

I'm not sure about your question, but you may want to ask this in the Collecting forum, or maybe Cape can move it for you.

Clearly everyone here collects, don't they? Or are all of you people who buy new comics and just read them and stack em up in your closet?

That link should get you to the collecting thread. Just look for COLLECTING COMICS.

To answer your question, I buy 'em, read 'em, and store them in boxes. Not sure what else to do with them other than that.

Click here Collecting Forum from there you might want to post under General Discussion or Ask the Experts.

Then you might want to wait a reasonable amount of time and see if anyone responds, before getting rude.

Make sure that you read and understand the forum rules here.

Hi FGG, welcome to the forums. I haven't purchased from Metropolis Connections yet but they are on my short list to buy from soon. What books did you purchase from there and what ended up being the CGC grade of them?

Wow, not even a member for 1 day and already insulting us. I can't imagine someone as high and mighty and knowledgeable as you would even need to ask advice from us lowly people. Clearly someone as smart as you should know everything about comics let alone posting the same message in every forum.

I wish I could help you but I still am not quite sure what a comic is.

I personally have not purchased from Metropolis, either. However, I took a peak at their seller ratings and see quite a few return purchases from buyers, including Joe himself! This speaks well of their product and service. Based on many commments here on the bulletin boards, I don't think alot of the buyers here are CGC fans. Most are active 'readers'. That may explain the lack of response to your original questions...

Hi. Yes, I don't need to be a member here for any amount of time to say what I feel. I'm not insulting anyone. Thanks for answering. Now, let me tell you that I have developed a report card on the various dealers that I buy from. What they stated the grade was and what it wound up being after coming back from CGC. When I get the comic from the dealer, I grade it myself, and my grading is just like CGC. Unfortunately, the dealers are not on the same page. What I really don't like is that.. when CGC first started, and I was one of the first to try out their new service, you could buy raw books for a normal price. Meaning... Overstreet. Now, the dealers price the comics AS IF they were already CGC graded, but the reality is that when you get them back from CGC they are a full grade lower, so now the dealers are really getting over. Which is why I wondered if any of you have had success with someone who is upstanding and trustworthy in their grading.

And.. let me say that Metropolis is the first place I go when looking for an older comic. I trust them far more than Superworld or any of the others.

That's exactly what I do. I read them and put them up in my closet just in case I want to read them again. I'm not into comics for profit value.

I suppose I am venting my displeasure of the many CGC orders I get back, HOPING that they will grade the comic better then what I thought, or at least what I paid for. That never happens. It's like going to the casino. You hope, but you always lose.

I'm not in it for profit value either as the person just said. I purchase comics raw, send them to CGC, get them encased... AND GET THIS..... I always buy a reading copy. I do have a child who I want to leave these comics to, so I would like them to be properly graded and protected by the encasement.

I doubt you'll get much sympathy about CGC here. Many of us don't trust the service. They probably have strict grading standards but for a fee and a percentage of what the book is worth I'll tell you that very fine hulk 181 is near mint too.

I hope I'm not boring anyone. Everyone collects different things in different ways. I originally came on here wondering if anyone sent something they bought from Metropolis to CGC and what the result was. I collect comics from when I was growing up.. so that is the mid-60's. I find Metropolis has a great selection. I have always had a lower grade come back then what I bought the book as. I was wondering if anyone had the magical experience (as if you won the lottery) where a book actually came back with a HIGHER grade then was represented.

Not too many members here have sent away books to CGC to be graded, so that may be why you haven't had any replies.

Where is the Metropolis comic shop you are buying your comics from?
