"Requiem for a Pug!"
Daredevil bravely steps in to save a Nuclear research plant from going ka-blooey in mid-town Manhattan. As a consequence, DD is exposed to an overwhelming dose of radiation.
When the OD takes its toll, DD folds. Matt Murdock awakens, but with no memory of his former life. Even without a formal identity, the lawyer's affinity for fairness and justice remains intact. In plain clothes, Murdock batters two street punks robbing a jeweller's.
This ferocious display brings Matt to the attention of an influential mobster, Mr. Hyle. Before Matt realizes what's happening he finds himself re-living his father's past. Mixed up with gangsters and fixed prizefights.
Hyle makes bundles of cash from his protégé, when he decides it's time for his new champion to throw a fight. Matt overhears the conversation, but his innate sense of honor predicates refusing with the request.
Hyle is incandescent with rage at the flagrant defiance. Matt's trainer, fearing retribution on his young charge, ushers the amnesic Man Without Fear from the ring. Not before Hyle's hoods catch them in the hallway.
Puggy, the trainer is shot dead trying to defend Matt, and the sudden shock brings memories of his father's fate rushing back. The pair of hoods are dealt with correspondingly.
Hyle and his other henchmen think they have a recalcitrant rookie fighter penned in a darkened locker room, but in reality Daredevil is back. Hyle's pet Leopard is loosed into the locker room. Only DD's radar sense saves him from serious mauling.
A wily old crook like Hyle has plenty of experience from gritty street fights and makes a lunge for Daredevil. When this first attack is blocked, Hyle employs more devious methods. This also backfires, as Hyle mortally wounds his pet, and is in turn, wounded thus, by the big cat.
