I know what everyone's going to say to this, but hear me out. How would people and CCL feel about submitting counterfeit issues/variants into the DB? I'm asking because I think it would be a good idea so that people can be aware that there ARE certain counterfeits out there that are going for a lot of money, are worthless and now they can be aware to what they are! I also think it would make CCL more complete as a database as a whole.

What do you think?

I think we need to be very careful on this if its done. Either a separate listing or very clearly marked in the database that this issue is counterfeit. It should also be restricted in such a way that it could not be sold through the website.

If you did enter just put scan on request and put details in issue description box. Fill in no other credits and lock it!

That's a good idea. Counterfeits shouldn't have any information attached to it except for a breif issue description like Spion said and my next suggestion.

1)Cover Description should be like "COUNTERFEIT ISSUE" so that it's clearly marked and draws attention.

2)The think the image ITSELF should have "counterfeit" across the image.

3) You MUST provide a supporting link to something proving that there is a counterfeit issue out there. If not, the addition MUST be rejected.

Def lock it also when 2.0 comes out. I'd like to really know what CCL thinks though!

I don't ever, ever want to give legitamacy to fraud. I hate everything it. The best way to put out a fire is to not feed it. By putting those issues in the system it allows sellers to list them, and thereby provides a distribution vehicle for the fraud. I am not "knowingly" going to participate in something that I feel is completly wrong. I don't even want to recognize them as even existing.

I saw some of these issues for sale at the Wizard World Texas, and my heart sank. I couldn't even believe that a shop would set up a booth and sell them. They put them right next to other legitamate variants, and made it look like the fraud was just another variant. I hated it.

If there is one thing that I don't like it is blatent deception. It makes me mad that people would "for a buck" deceive young collectors. Anyway, I don't even want these issues in our system. It only encourages people to continue to benifit from devious actions. I won't support it.

Great topic here. It is the real world and we have to deal with crap like counterfeit comic book covers. Jeesh, what some people do for a buck... inject crap into a fun hobby. Those books should be destroyed.

I agree Joe that counterfeits sould probably not be in the database, on the other hand vacant idea of using CCL as a possible warning system is valid.

How about section in our forums for counterfeits. We could show images, when possible, also where and from who we've seen these books for sale.

Yeah I agree, don't even give them a place here. All you'd be doing is legitimizing these scams. I think people know enough about comics here to keep them out. If it's not in the Database, it's not a part of the Live Market, right?

I agree wholeheartedly! Actually scams is not strong enough - more like SCUMS!!

I do, however, think the idea for a permanent 'warning' topic on the messageboards is a good idea. Many who visit this site do not have the experience of the Bats! Always good to watch your buddies back! But do not allow them into the database!

That's a cool alternative! So we can keep CCL happy by not recognizing them but still bring them to people's attention.

Looks like Joe's in agreement, just have to see if he'd rather us put this in General Discussion or into a new sub forum

subforums can get unweildy very quickly. If it needs to be expanded out later, that's possible, but for now start a thread under Collecting, general Discussion. I can also make it sticky, if necessary--although sticky threads are less likely to be noticed when they get new responses.

Topic was posted HERE, Rain! What's the difference between a regular and a sticky? Whichever gets the most people to see the topic. New responses probably won't happen too often, so I don't want it to disappear if it hasn't been posted on in a while. Does sticky mean it will stay at the top of the topic?

How about listing known issues that have been counterfitted with something "Counterfits Exist" in the items descriptions? I don't think we're to the point of tradint Cerebus #1's or TMNT #1's around here yet, but you never know...

I think a sticky stays on the top of the topics all the time.

I do not want to buy a counterfit and would be totaly (banned) with a dealer if they ever sold me one. Maybe CCL needs to make a seperate data base so the consumer would no what to look for in the counterfit. This is the first time I ever heard of it. I think buyer need to be warned. I love this hobby and would hate to see any one get screwed over because of counterfits.
