I'm still fairly new to comics, but my collection is finally starting to blossom in size a bit. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share some organizational techniques with me.
I'm familiar with bags, boards, and boxes - just looking for suggestions on how to keep myself organized as my collection continues to grow. So, tell me, how do you guys arrange your books? Alphabetically? By age? Character? Publisher? Story arcs? Let me know!
Thanks!

I organize mine alphabetically, in line with the CCL database, with a couple exceptions. A few titles that I have 100+ issues of and that I continue to add to get their own boxes.
Pull List:
X-Force
,
IUncanny X-Men
,
Marvelous X-Men
, Major X,
Daredevil
,
Witchblade
,
Cyber Force

I put all my comics in alphabetical order according to title. And within each title they're in number order. They're all bagged and boarded. I keep them in comic long-boxes I bought at the local comic shop.
As for Graphic Novels and Trade Paperbacks I just shelf them on a bookshelf, and bag and board them in magazine-size bags & boards. I also keep them in alphabetical order.

Since I am fairly new to this as well, I found for me I use the short comic book house boxs, so I can stack them, I also bag and board all of them, and use dividers to seperate the diffrent series' and keep them in number order.
as the previous member said I keep the novels on a shelf as well and also in alphabetical order as well.
Hope that helps
Dennis

Having been a collector of 30+ years, I find the easiest way is alphabetical. If a series changes title (i.e. Batman and the Outsiders becomes Adventures of the Outsiders), I will keep them in numerical order. All mine are bagged and boarded and in 100 short boxes I store on shelves. Books, statues and action figures are on shelves.

Nice set up!
I keep mine in short boxes as well, they are the easiest to move around if needed, and it's easy to find a spot to put them if if you don't have a ton of space.
I really like some of the other organizational systems that other CCL'ers have shown in the past; file cabinets, comic book houses, etc, but for me I've found the basic short box to be the most convenient. I probably have around 30 of them full, and still have about 8 long boxes that I'm going to switch over.

I used to have my books in longboxes on utility tables but I was pretty much out of room. I decided to switch to short boxes last October so I could stack them higher on shelves and now have a little more room to grow. Though, at the rate I've been buying back issues, I will eventually run out of room again and will then have to think of something else. Some of the options out there, such as Comic Cubes, where you are basically storing your books in furniture are pretty nice. The only problem is that they are usually very expensive. Besides, if you ever had to move it would be a nightmare trying to transport a large collection. For the time being, short boxes will work for me. Until I win the lottery, that is.

Currently using the alpha/numeric system with bags and boards in long boxes on utility tables in the basement. The problem I'm having is that even though I have enough room to expand, there's so much other crap down there I can't get as organized as I would like. I think this Fall we're going to have a yard sale. So hopefully in a few more months I can start getting things back on track.

I've got a HON legal sized 4 drawer filing cabinet with my post-CoIE Superman collection organized chronologically (story reading order that is) with every Superman appearance since CoIE.
I've got another cabinet next to it with Green Lantern (non-Alan Scott) also arranged chronologically (when that collection is complete it will definitely have outgrown the cabinet).
In between the cabinets are 4 drawer boxes with my various other collections, each title is organized chronologically (picking up on a theme?).
Then I've got a short box with all of my Stephen King related comics.

I don't know why I have never thought of this, but I think it's genius! May have to give this a shot. I was just mulling the other day about how poorly longboxes handle your comics. You've got the flap at the bottom to get caught on, the flap on the side where it's held together, plus unless you have it crammed full, you end up messing up all the comics in front as they keep sliding down. Thank you very much for posting this!

Glad I could be of service.I guarantee you won't regret going this route, you can find the magazine holders at any office supply.I get mine at Office Depot they are priced at 13.00 for six,a tad pricey but well worth it.

I use file cabinets to store my comics. They are great especially with the backend slider so it can be adjusted to fir the amount of comics in each drawer. As for how they are sorted, since at least 75% of my collection is Spider-Man, they are sorted this way.
Spider-Man ongoing issues alphabetically, Spider_man mini-series alphabetically, Spider-Man one-shots alphabetically, then Spider-Man duplicates alphabetically. After the Spider-Man issues I have them sorted by publisher in alphabetical order.
Here are my file cabinets, disregard Spidey sitting in front of them.

I looked these up on the Office Depot website, do you have a suggestion on which ones to get? Are the 60% Recycled Fiberboard ones better than the plastic ones you think? I've stored my comics in long boxes for years and have also noticed that it stresses the spine and generally puts a bend to all the comics.

The cardboard bankers box ones are perfectly fine, the plastic ones are more expensive.

So I was thinking about this in the shower the other day, wouldn't there possibly be an issue with yellowing due to light/sun? Where I would do this , the books would be exposed to light of some fashion probably 16-20 hours out of the day. Maybe I could reverse them and put the longer side outwards?
