RIPPED OFF BY CGC
COLLECTORS SOCIETY COMICS RIPOFF , IF THIS HAPPENED TO YOU CONTACT THE ATTORNEY GENERALS ,INSPECTOR GENERALS OFFICE.
I SENT INTO CGC A HULK 181 THAT I HAD BOUGHT NEW AT 14 YEARS OLD READ ONCE AND STORED IT AWAY. THIS COMIC WAS AT LEAST A 9.0 TO 9.6 . GOT IT BACK WITH A RESTORED GRADE OF 5.5 THEY SWITCHED MY COMIC AND SENT ME BACK A DIFFERENT BOOK. I HAVE COLLECTED COMICS FOR OVER 40 YEARS AND WORKED PRE PRESS FOR A LARGE PRINTING COMPANY FOR 25 YEARS. CONTACTED CGC ABOUT SENDING THE WRONG BOOK BACK THEY SAID THEY WOULD LOOK INTO IT. CGC GOT BACK TO ME AND SAID I WAS JUST MAD BECAUSE I DID NOT GET THE GRADE I WANTED. I KNOW WHAT I SENT IN AND ITS NOT THE BOOK I GOT BACK. SENT CGC PICTURES OF MY HULK 181 AND THEY WONT RESPOND TO ME. I SENT IN 8 OTHER COMICS OF THE SAME ERA WITH THE HULK 181. THEY ALL CAME BACK WITH FROM A 9.0 TO 9.6 NO RESTORED . DO NOT SENT THEM YOUR COMICS YOU MAY NOT GET BACK WHAT YOU SENT IN AND THEIRS NOTHING YOU CAN DO EXCEPT THINK ABOUT THE BOOK YOU ONCE HAD AND WILL NEVER SEE AGAIN. VERY UNHAPPY WILL NEVER DEAL WITH THEM AGAIN.

I feel like, although quite the (banned)ty situation, this did not necessarily require caps lock to be on.

Doesn't matter. I don't think CGCRIPOFF will be back.

Sounds like he was just venting. His post is a copy/past from somewhere else as well (eBay I think) which was also all caps.

It's too bad. We could have used his wit and insight. Whew!

It is a shame if what he says is true.

True, but I don't blame the guy if what he says is true. That's a pretty crappy deal.

yup, part of the reason I was never tempted to slab any of my comics or even buy slabbed ones.

I will never 100% fully trust that type of service unless I can witness the entire processing of my own books.

I don't collect comics as an investment anyway, so I just don't see a point to it.

+1 to both of those statements.

I don't know how CGC is anymore. I worked for them sealing the books in the soft plastic back in 2001 before they moved to Florida. As for procedure, I think they take a picture of each book when it comes in so there shouldn't be an argument about whether or not your book is the one being sent back.

When the books come in, they each get a barcode on the bag they were sent in, unless I guess two books came in the same bag and they probably put it in a bag/board that was extra. No bags and boards were saved. I used to take them home for my own extra comics or what not due to the fact they were all being thrown out. I thought it was a waste.

Anyway, books stay in that barcoded bag/board until they are encapsulated in the soft plastic/hard plastic.

As for using CGC, I pretty much abandoned them. I don't think it's right to charge people to be able to submit books on top of the grading fees.

I've decided to go with CBCS because I have 100% faith in Steve Borock. He's a great guy and when working with him in CGC, he was respectable and cared about each and every aspect of the hobby. My first batch of CBCS books have just been encapsulated and almost all the books yielded 9.6 to 9.8. Of course I have a good eye for what to look for with grading thanks to the fact I worked at CGC those 13 years ago.

I put full trust in CBCS so if you decide to grade books, I'd go with them.

I have a book I am tempted to get graded and "locked up" as I put it. It has a personalized autograph from Steranko and a autograph from Sinnott. I know they do not recognize autographs if a CGC rep is not present. So even though I feel the book is a solid 9, will they grade the book a 0 because it's "defaced". Thanks.

I realize your comic got a 9.8 grade from them; it still gets a 0.0 for content from me.

No they would still give it a 9.0 if that is the grade, they will however also give it the "Qualified" Label.

Possibly, although I have a Cerebus blue label where it just has a note on the label saying "Dave Sim written on Page 1 in pen"

CBCS offers an autograph authentication service now. No one has to be present for this. It has its own label, which I believe is red instead of the yellow CGC one. I'm sure people will try and forge autographs and see if they can get it by the authenticator, but most people in this hobby are honest. I had a dual auto on a Magnus/Nexus #1 that came sealed with a tamper proof seal and cert. I received a 9.8 on it. I was so happy. They started offering this service about 2 1/2 months ago, so I'm curious as to how many they've done so far. I'm unsure how much the extra charge is for the authentication. Feel free to contact them. Pam and Zachary are very friendly. I can't wait to get my books.

I am a huge fan of CBCS and became a even bigger one at Baltimore Comic Con. Unlike CGC where you have to grab a witness and follow them around with 4-6 other people to get their autos before you get yours, CBCS will have you sign a legal document that states that all signatures you get will be authentic and only by people presnet at the convention. This document then allows you free roam to go from person to person at during the convention at your leisure and have them sign your books without having to wait for anyone else to get signatures because the book cant be out of the CGC reps sights. Alot of people dont like this since it hasnt been officially verified but I got roughly 30 books signed and loved that it took me like a quarter of the time that it ususally would. Plus the peole over at the CBCS table Steve where awesome super friendly and a great help. I only wish that they did on sight grading for that show but since they dont take 4 months to grade books like other companies its not such a bad trade off.

To the guy who posted CGC switched his Hulk 181.

I believe him, why? Because this just happened to me but with CBCS.

these guys were the first time at the Vancouver comicon Feb 2017.

2 guys at there "booth" were collecting books to be shipped and graded by CBCS.

At this show I picked a 9.4 maybe 9.6 Marvel Premiere #15 along with 7 other books to submit.

I received all the books back but wow to my surprise the Premiere #15 was NOT my book??!!!

Absolutely floored and shocked!! Ok what happened here?

I called the dealer who sold me this high grade book and sent him a pic of the book CBCS sent me.

He was just as surprised.

Have contacted CBCS and only been getting Kimberley- she has not helped much.

Been told upper management would contact me?! Okay so it's been 3 weeks since she said this.

Is anyone going to contact me?! I was told there was no way my book got switched.

Well, it did happen and a few guys I've consulted in the comic industry says it most likely happened at the show with one of the 2 CBCS reps.

Dustin was the guy who took my books, and I honestly believe he is the one who did the switch.

I've already contacted Visa to refund payment- but I want my book back!! I want an explanation which I'm at this point not getting.
